The Project Management Institute (PMI) has officially launched the PMI Single Membership Model in Thailand, effective February 2026. This is one of the most significant structural changes to PMI membership in recent years, and it directly affects every current and prospective member of the PMI Thailand Chapter. The PMI Thailand Chapter Board has fully embraced this transition and is committed to guiding our community through it with clarity and transparency.
What Is the PMI Single Membership Model?
The PMI Single Membership Model unifies global PMI membership with local chapter membership into a single, streamlined experience. Under the previous model, members were required to join PMI globally and then separately join their local chapter — two separate transactions, two separate fees. The new model changes this fundamentally.
Under the Single Membership Model, every PMI member automatically receives access to chapter programs and services worldwide. Members designate a “home chapter” — in our case, the PMI Thailand Chapter — which determines their primary affiliation, including voting rights in chapter elections and priority engagement with local programs and events. At the same time, members gain access to all participating PMI chapters globally through the Multi-Chapter Access Program, opening doors to events, resources, and networks around the world.
The vision behind this change is to offer unified membership access for every PMI member, simplify the experience, and foster a more interconnected global community. PMI-SAC
Why This Change Matters
This model has been a long-standing request from the global PMI community. Data shows that chapter membership retention is significantly higher than PMI-only membership retention — at 87% — and that fewer than half of all PMI members were also chapter members under the previous model. PMI-SAC The Single Membership Model addresses this gap directly, expanding chapter access to the full PMI membership base and strengthening the profession’s collective voice.
For the PMI Thailand Chapter, the Board has positioned this transition not as a constraint, but as an opportunity to increase early engagement and demonstrate clear member value. The chapter’s strategy focuses on guiding newly enrolled members to participate in at least one chapter activity within their first six months. Pmithai
New Membership Fees for Thailand (Effective February 2026)
The following fee structure applies to PMI members based in Thailand under the new model:
For residents of Thailand: A combined PMI Global + PMI Thailand Chapter membership is available at a location-adjusted rate of USD 154 per year. This single fee covers your full PMI global membership and automatic affiliation with the PMI Thailand Chapter as your home chapter. PMI uses global economic data to ensure price parity for professionals in different markets, and the Thailand rate reflects this commitment to equitable access.
Chapter opt-in for non-Thailand-based PMI members: Members who hold a PMI membership based in another country may opt in to the PMI Thailand Chapter for an additional fee of USD 18 per year.
PMI Thailand Chapter standalone fee: The PMI Thailand Chapter fee under the new model is set at USD 18 per year, applicable where a separate chapter fee applies.
Note: Membership fees are subject to applicable taxes. PMI membership pricing is location-based and may vary. For the most current pricing applicable to your account, please visit the official PMI membership store at https://www.pmi.org/membership.
Important Action Required: Members Who Have Not Updated Their Address
Under the Single Membership Model, your registered country of residence in your PMI profile directly determines your membership tier, pricing, and chapter assignment. This makes your address on file critically important.
Many long-standing members of the PMI Thailand Chapter joined years ago and have never updated their residential address in PMI’s system. If your PMI profile still reflects an outdated address — whether a previous country of residence, a former employer’s address, or any location other than Thailand — your membership may not be correctly assigned to Thailand, and you may not receive the correct pricing or chapter affiliation under the new model.
If you are a resident of Thailand and your PMI profile does not reflect a Thai address, you must update your information immediately.
To do so, please contact PMI Customer Care directly:
- PMI Customer Care Portal: https://www.pmi.org/help-marketplace/membership-help
- PMI Contact Page: https://www.pmi.org/about/contact
When contacting PMI Customer Care, inform them that you are a resident of Thailand and request that your registered address be updated to your current Thai address. This step is essential to ensure you are correctly enrolled under the Thailand pricing tier and that the PMI Thailand Chapter remains your designated home chapter.
Do not delay this update. Failure to maintain an accurate address in your PMI profile may result in incorrect billing, loss of chapter affiliation, or disruption to your membership continuity at renewal.
What Stays the Same
Your existing PMI certifications — including PMP, PMI-ACP, CAPM, and others — are not affected by this membership model change. Your PDU records, certification cycles, and credential status remain intact. The chapter’s monthly lectures, professional workshops, field trips, recognition programs, and networking events continue uninterrupted. The PMI Thailand Chapter remains committed to delivering a full calendar of high-quality professional development activities throughout 2026 and beyond.
