Getting the PMP Certification is certainly not cheap, yet if you know a few tricks, you would be able to achieve PMP success with deep savings off the PMP certification costs.

Joining the PMI is not a requirement for the PMP examination, yet the benefits you get far outweigh the cost for the first year of membership fee (note: joining the local chapter is not required but is encouraged). For the PMP examination fee alone, the saving for PMI member outweighs the first year membership fee. Discounted Meeting and Event Fees

PMI Thailand Chapter members are eligible to attend exclusive “members only” meetings arranged annually by the Chapter.

Opportunity to Serve on the Board of Directors

PMI Thailand Chapter members may volunteer to be nominated for vacant Chapter board of directors positions. Serving on the board is an excellent opportunity to contribute to the Chapter and the development of project management in Thailand. Elected officers who are accredited with the CAPM or PMP certification can claim up to 10 PDUs per 12-month period they serve as board members, limited to a maximum of 20 PDUs per 3-year certification cycle.

Registration of PDUs

For PMI Thailand Chapter members who are accredited with the CAPM or PMP certification, the Chapter will handle the registration of PDUs earned by attending Chapter meetings and events with PMI.

Voting Rights

PMI Thailand Chapter members are eligible to cast their votes in the annual ballot for election of Chapter officers to serve on the Chapter board of directors.

The PMBOK Guide outlines the project management standard and includes a guide on how to apply principles and practices for better project delivery. It contains content that would not be found on other reference books and would be useful in your preparation for any certification with PMI. Good news for PMI members, the Guide can be downloaded free from the PMI website. You can also order the book online through PMI Thailand Chapter’s in online Store. Members are entitled to a 5% discount coupon on every purchase.

PMI Thailand Chapter provides its members and other professionals opportunities for training and professional development. The Chapter provides monthly lectures, workshops, field-trips, and orientation programs, which are currently and primarily hosted in Bangkok. Attendees at such events are entitled to a pre-defined number of “contact hours”, which can be accumulated and later used as a pre-requisite for the PMP Exam. PMI requires 35 contacts hours of Project Management Training prior to sitting for the PMP Exam. The Chapter’s organized events provide an opportunity for members to participate and earn the contact hours required at a discounted price.

PMI has rolled out a location-based pricing policy. For latest information on PMI membership fees and PMP exam fees or any other certification, please visit pmi.org website.

The PMP exam is based on the PMP Exam Content Outline with certain percentage of the questions allocated to three domains as below:

  • People (42%)
  • Process (50%)
  • Business Environment (8%)

The exam consists of 180 multiple choice questions and can include multi-answer options. All 180 questions are scored and you’re allowed up to two 10-minute breaks during the exam. The allocation time to complete the exam is 3 hours and 50 minutes.

  • You need to submit the PMP requirements forms at PMI site.  Once the PMI approve and you are eligible, PMI will e-mail you examination payment and scheduling instructions.
  • Once you complete the payment process, you have 1 year duration to schedule you exam before your eligiblity expires.
  • With computer-based exams for PMI, you can register at all Pearson Exam Centers worldwide as advised through the PMI Global website.
  • 31 days or more before the exam: No fee.
  • Within 30 days – 3 days of exam: US $70.
  • Within 2 days of the exam: Forfeit the full exam fee.

You can re-take the exam up to 2 times within your 1 year eligibility period. After that, you are require to re-submit the PMP requirement to obtain a new eligibility code.

Should your application get audited, you need to send your audit experience validation forms to your supervisors/previous supervisors and the whole package to PMI.
