Project Management in the Public Sector

  • August 21, 2024 - 6:30pm
  • Novotel Hotel Ploenchit 566 Ploenchit Road Lumpini, Bangkok 10330, Thailand

Project management in the public sector ensures government projects are completed efficiently, effectively, and within budget, delivering essential public services and infrastructure. It enhances transparency, accountability, and resource optimization, while mitigating risks and ensuring regulatory compliance, thereby boosting public trust.

Public sector projects often involve high complexity and multiple stakeholders, such as the Suvarnabhumi Airport and the MRT Blue Line. Managing these projects requires coordinating diverse interests, extensive planning, and rigorous execution. Despite these challenges, both the Suvarnabhumi Airport and the MRT Blue Line projects have been successfully completed on time and within budget, showcasing the effectiveness of robust project management practices, including those advocated by PMI. These achievements demonstrate how disciplined execution and decision-making can lead to the successful and sustainable delivery of public services that meet community needs.

The speaker will discuss this topic and present examples from his experience, illustrating the practical application of these project management principles in the public sector.
