Updates on the Capability Maturity Model Integration

Event Date:May 20, 2011

Software Engineering Institute (SEI)  was established at Carnegie Mellon University by the Department of Defense to develop mechanisms for improving software development.  One of the  main products of SEI is the Capability Maturity Model for Software (SW-CMM) which is the process improvement model that influences many similar models in other fields such as human resource management, system engineering, computer services, etc.  Later SEI developed a new model – Capability Maturity Model Integration for Development (CMMI-DEV) to replace SW-CMM with an intention to be the basis to develop other CMMI models. In 2009 SEI developed two new models CMMI for Acquisition and CMMI for Services for use in the acquisition process and the provision of services to customers. These two models start to gain more acceptance at present time.  In 2010 SEI again upgraded all CMMI models to v1.3 in order to simplify and change all confusion in the previous version related to the concept of maturity improvement.
The objectives of this presentation are to introduce all CMMI models and explain the maturity concept behind these models.  Discussion on how these models are related to project management will also be presented.  Participants will obtain applicable ideas from CMMI to enhance their work as project managers.
