PMP will be changing July 2026
PMP is changing on 9 July 2026.
The current exam runs until 8 July 2026, then it is replaced globally.
What is fundamentally changing
1. Shift from “delivery” to “value”
- Focus moves beyond scope, cost, schedule
- Strong emphasis on business value and outcomes
- You must think like a business leader, not only a project executor
2. Major change in exam weighting
Current → New
- People: 42% →33%
- Process: 50% →41%
- Business Environment: 8% →26%
This is the biggest shift.
What this means for you:
- Strategy, governance, compliance, and value delivery matter more
- Expect questions tied to organizational impact, not only execution
3. New content areas
The exam now reflects modern project reality:
- AI in project management
- Sustainability
- Stakeholder engagement at scale
- Value delivery mindset
4. More realistic exam style
- Still ~180 questions, ~240 minutes
- More:
- Scenario-based questions
- Case studies
- Visual data and dashboards
What this means:
- Less memorization
- More interpretation and decision-making
5. Broader leadership expectations
You will be tested on:
- Stakeholder alignment
- Strategic communication
- Governance and reporting
- Managing external environments
6. Eligibility updates (important)
- Experience window extended to 10 years
- More flexible pathways (degrees, apprenticeships)
What is NOT changing
- PMP remains the same certification
- Core principles still apply
- Agile, predictive, and hybrid still tested
