Data privacy as defined is “the right of a citizen to have control over how personal information is collected and used”. Data protection is a subset of privacy. Data Privacy Impact Assessment (DPIA), which was introduced in Europe, is a review of any personal data that is being handled as part of any project. Such assessment looks at the scope, context, and the purpose of the data processing required, what compliance measures are in place, as well as the risks to the individuals (data subjects) and the measures to mitigate those risks.
In Thailand, the government has agreed on the enforcement of PDPA (Personal Data Privacy Act) for 31 May 2022. In relation to this many questions should be considered for discussion:
- What is Personal data and why is it important?
- What is the Personal Data Privacy Act (PDPA)? What implications does it have on businesses operating in Thailand?
- How is related to project management and what considerations should project managers working in Thailand take as they handle data for their organizations as well as for that of their customers?
- What are the implications for people managing projects that store, capture or process personal data across and outside of Thailand?
