During 2012 there were 10 chapter meetings with world class presenters, many of whom are also full time Project Management practitioners. Some meetings were conducted in Thai, a format introduced in 2011. Topics covered the full spectrum of the project management discipline from Cross Cultural PM where project management was introduced to multiple disciplines in a large company to facilitate a merger operation to a discussion on traditional vs alternative approaches to project management being studied in Sweden.
Chapter meeting summaries, many with copies of the presentation slides from the meetings, are available in the events section of the PMI Bangkok website. Chapter meetings provide great opportunities for expansion of project management knowledge as well as providing a time for networking with other project managers throughout Thailand.
During July the Chapter worked with Bumrungrad Hospital to arrange a Tour of Technology Services organized exclusively for the Chapter. The half day tour was attended by more than 30 members of the PMI community who received a briefing from the hospital technology director and then a tour of the hospital technology services including robotics, automated testing systems, and the hospital computer center.
In June 2012 the Chapter was asked by the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) to provide seven classes to contribute PM content to a course being held at AIT for Project Management personnel from Pakistan. The courses were presented by volunteers from the PMI Chapter. Plans are already underway to cooperate with King Mongkut University of Technology(KMUT) Masters Program in Project Management where PMI Chapter members will volunteer to teach specific classes as part of the Masters program.
The Bangkok PMI Chapter provided many new opportunities for members to participate in areas of interest as well as contributing to the advancement of project management in Thailand. The activities in the Chapter have increased over previous years in line with the goals set by the Board of Directors. The program designed by the current Board for 2013 promises to be even more active than 2012. Stay tuned to the PMI Bangkok Chapter website for coming events and opportunities.
