Year 2013 was a year of great progression for the Thailand Chapter in multiple areas. In the program’s perspective, the chapter offered an abundance of development opportunities to help project professionals stay abreast of the changing business environment. Throughout 2013, new initiatives have been created to complement the regular monthly events and annual field trips in order to extend the engagement with members and practitioners. These included a semester-wide course for the sole MBA in Project Management in Thailand, full day trainings in key project management areas and a PMP certification orientation session.
A highlight of year 2013 was the addition of a full day training event focused on educating professionals on key topics in project management. During the first half, the chapter started with a single one day training to support the preparation for the upcoming ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) in 2016. The event was an astounding success with nearly a hundred participants; hence two additional events were added during the second half featuring Agile Project Management Boot Camp and Project Management Office (PMO) workshop. Trainers from various areas around the world flew in to share their knowledge and experiences, and the numbers of attendees constantly surpassed quota.
Other initiatives in education have been taken as the chapter believes that no profession can truly flourish without careful nurturing of future talents. One of the most significant ways the chapter contributed to this awareness was by educating students on PMBOK methodology on project management and share practical experiences through an international project management themed series of classes at the MBA in Project Management at the King Mongkut University of Technology. In addition, the chapter also catered to professionals that aim to become a certified Project Management Professional (PMP) by organizing an orientation session where overview of PMBOK methodology and certification requirements were explained and certified PMPs shared their experiences with other interested professionals.
From the professional development aspect, the chapter maintained its pledge to support the profession through recurring monthly events and an annual field trip. During August, the chapter visited Marsun Co., Ltd. – Thailand’s leading ship builder who is known for its quality delivery to the government sector and private firms, both locally and internationally. With Marsun’s mission for affordable superiority, they were able to share extraordinary project management experiences as takeaways for attendees in all industries.
At the monthly events, best practices such as “The Driving Model”, paperless project management and better contract management were presented. Additionally, lessons learned ranging from team management to conflict resolution as well as management of small vs. large projects were shared during the second half of the year. The increasing number of community members also continued to share experiences and networked through the events. On the 18th of December, the chapter will hold its annual meeting as a give back to members. The event shall provide opportunity for networking, open discussion regarding project management and feedback for future events. Nonetheless, members can expect entertaining activities and lucky draws. For further information, please click here.
The chapter is pleased to be delivering value with this new initiative and intends to continuously provide them. The goal of the chapter is to not only build awareness but also provide compelling takeaways for everyone, from project professional to the younger generation. Armed with that information, organization and practitioners alike can use project management to truly enhance value and surpass the expectations of their organization in achieving strategic objectives, outpace the competition and secure future gains.
