Knowledge Management in Implementing ERP Projects

Knowledge Management is increasingly considered as a main source of competitive advantage for corporations. However, knowledge does not usually command significant value until it is embedded in products or processes. One possible way to study how knowledge creates value to organizations is to assess how it is managed across activities within the value chain.

Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) implementation is one of such supportive activities in the value chain that adds value to organizations by improving products or processes. ERP implementations synthesize existing knowledge thereby improving business processes. However, researches on ERP and IT focused on using IT solutions as enabling tools for knowledge management rather than managing knowledge in implementing IT solutions. The objective of this presentation is to explore how knowledge creates value to organizations by assessing knowledge management practices in ERP implementations.

Of twenty year experience, Mr. Phasit has been working in the Information Technology industry. He has spent over fourteen years with Oracle as sales consultant, project manager, and practice manager. He has experience managing large implementation project/program of ERP solutions successfully for big enterprises such as Siam Commercial Bank, Toyota, PTTEP, PTT, Chia Tai, Berli Jucker, BoonThavorn, TT&T. Besides project management role, he also extend his responsibilities to managing bid process, project review (Health Check), managing consulting team as well as subcontractors, managing practice budget and forecast. Mr. Phasit has also worked in engineering with manufacturing companies in Oil & Gas, furniture, and Hi-tech industry for many years. Mr. Phasit holds a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering from Prince of Songkla University, Master of Business Administration degrees, and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) from Asian Institute of Technology.
