Project Management in the Retail Industry

It has often been said that for a retailer to be successful then ‘retail is detail‘ and this would apply when simultaneously launching a range of 100’s of house brand products in Thailand.

It takes great team work and project management skills to understand the Thai market place, create the plan, resource the team, source from suppliers, negotiate terms, estimate quantities, plan production, deliver to stores, display on shelves, sell to customers and constantly review what is working well.

This presentation shares experiences and insights gained from the speaker’s retail career and involvement in many category management projects.

Key takeaways from the presentation will (hopefully) be:

– Understanding the business case, defining the scope and supplier base.

– Planning the resources required, set up costs, quality standards and communications,

– Implementation to ensure the right products are in the right place at the right time.

– Monitoring of daily / weekly changes against the plan.

– Reviewing what worked well and what could be done better next time.
